Foreign Worker Application

For expatriates seeking employment within a Malaysian organization, an approved Employment Pass (EP) from the Immigration Department of Malaysia is necessary.

Additionally, Malaysian organizations intending to hire expatriate employees must obtain an approved Expatriate Employment Pass (EEP) due to the limitations on the number of foreign workers that can be employed within a Malaysian company.

– Fixed monthly income of minimum RM10,000.
– Fixed monthly income between RM5,000-RM9,999.
– Fixed monthly income between RM3,000-RM4,999.
– A valid employment contract of minimum 5 years.
– Valid employment contract of 2 years.
– Employment contract period not exceeding 1 year.

Qualified Working Roles

There are six categories that an applicant must fulfill at least one of to be eligible for the Professional Visit Pass (PVP). These categories are:

  • Expertise Transfer

Examples: Installation & Repair of Machines and Equipment Specialist; Technical Consultant

  • Research

Examples: Researcher, Research Assistant

  • Training

Examples: Researcher, Research Assistant

  • Volunteers
  •  Exhibitors under regulation of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB)

Important Information

  • The PVP is valid for a maximum of 12 months and is non-renewable. A new application is required after expiration.
  • Applicants must apply for the PVP from outside Malaysia, in their country of origin.
  • If there is a change in employer while the PVP is still valid, the PVP holder must cancel the current pass and observe a 3-month cooling-off period before reapplying.
  • PVP holders are not eligible to apply for Dependent Passes for their family members.

Application Timeline

Once the necessary approvals from all relevant parties are obtained, the candidate can start the EP/EEP application process. This process typically takes up to 2 weeks (14 days). However, incomplete application documents may extend the processing time to as long as 3 months.

The 5-step process includes:

  1. Create an account (online registration)
  2. Submit the online application
  3. Application processing by the Department of Immigration
  4. Receive status notification
  5. Company activation

Additional Information

  • EPIII holders (see Types of Employment Permits section) who have consecutively renewed their Malaysian permit 2-3 times must adhere to a 3-month cooling-off period by leaving the country.
  • EPIII holders wishing to change employers must also serve a mandatory 3-month cooling-off period before reapplying.
